Catching up on Scripture
You want your youth to become familiar with the Word of God, but you lack confidence due to your own limited knowledge. What to do? Begin your own Bible reading journey!
YOU TURNS has come up with a relatively simple plan which requires using three bookmarks, one for the Old Testament, one for Psalms and Proverbs, and one for the New Testament. To complete the Bible in approximately one year, follow the number of pages or chapters directed by each bookmark and plan to make this a daily habit.
There are many other Bible reading plans available, even chronological Bible in a Year volumes and plans. Chronological Bibles are not arranged according to the type of liturature - Historical, Psalms, Proverbs, Prophecy, Gospels, Acts, Letters, and Apocalyptic - as is the traditional Bible, but rather insert readings from all the genre in the order of the time written or referred to. This adds another dimension of knowledge - the historical context, but it doesn't help you familiarize yourself with the order of traditional Bibles
Liturgy of the Hours and daily Mass expose you to a good segment of the Word of God, but to get a true grasp of Holy Scripture, one should read the entire Bible. Catholics, especially, should make this effort because compared to our Evangelical brothers and sisters, we are weak in Bible knowledge and can easily be talked out of our Catholic faith. If we've read the scriptures with a mind open to the doctrines of our faith, we will discover our Catholic beliefs are completely grounded in God's word.
